Those who think of Trentino food usually focus on the typical dishes of the South Tyrolean tradition, from dumplings to potato cakes. Most people don’t know you can also find an iconic Mediterranean product in Garda Trentino: we are talking about our green gold, Garda Trentino olive oil, which is unique for two reasons.

Olive trees have been cultivated for centuries on the sunny fields surrounding Lake Garda: the main varieties are Casaliva, Frantoio, Leccino and Pendolino. The oil obtained when pressing these olives has a green-gold colour, and a fresh and delicate aroma, with hints of wild herbs, artichokes and green almonds. Of course, the production is smaller compared to the large farms elsewhere in Italy, but the unique characteristics of this oil make this product very precious. It is no coincidence that the extra virgin olive oil of Garda has rightfully entered the top 5 Italian olive-growing PDO regions.
The northernmost olive oil
We said Garda olive oil is unique for two reasons. The first, as we have seen, relates to the unique organoleptic characteristics of Garda Trentino oil. The second is geographical in nature. The northernmost oil produced in the world is right here, on the 46th parallel. This is possible thanks to the Mediterranean microclimate that characterizes the northern part of Lake Garda, allowing people to produce superior quality oil in the shade of the Alps.

Staying in Torbole sul Garda without tasting the oil produced in this area would be a sacrilege.
